Afya

Afya Educacional (Afya LTD) was born as a result of Crescera´s 2014 vintage fund´s acquisition and merger of three leading medical companies, namely: NRE, Medcel and Uniceplac. The main thesis of our Growth Capital Fund III was to invest in “thematic education” – precisely, in medical education. Furthermore, our main value proposition for Afya was the philosophy of lifelong learning, which becomes a relevant and valuable differentiator given the fast-changing and fast-growing nature of medicine as an academic discipline.

Afya takes an innovative methodological approach, combining integrated content, interactive learning and an adaptive experience for students. Through educational content and technology-infused activities, Afya provides an ecosystem focused on medical education that serves professionals throughout their career.

Since the Fund’s entry into the first assets in 2016, the groups have strengthened their positions with the professionalization of management, development of new educational products and several acquisitions. Crescera’s work with Afya’s founding partners and executives culminated with the company’s 2019 NASDAQ IPO and its consolidation as the largest company focused on medical education in Brazil. Crescera exited Afya in 2021, closing this successful investment cycle with the sell-off to Bertelsmann Group.
